Have you just brought a puppy home?
Then you already know about the sleepless nights. The biting, which is somehow constant and everywhere at once. The moment a bare foot finds a wet patch on the carpet. Being barked at for the crime of standing up.
You love them. You would also quite like to sleep.
The puppy blues are real
Nobody warns you properly. Everybody tells you how lovely it is going to be, and then you are sat on the kitchen floor at eleven at night with a small furious animal attached to your sleeve, wondering what on earth you have done and whether you are the only person who has ever felt this way.
You are not. When we brought Bucky home, my partner Cristian was completely overwhelmed. He is a cat person who had never lived with a dog, and a sparky Border Collie puppy took his entire routine apart inside a week.
Here is the thing though. The difference between a hard first year and an easy one is almost never the puppy. It is what gets taught in the first few months, and how early it starts.
That is what the Puppy School is for
Six weeks covering everything puppy. We lay the foundations of training, work out how to keep them happy and healthy, and set them up to become the dog you actually want to live with for the next fourteen years. Meanwhile you get your sleep back and learn how to handle the dreaded witching hour.

What we cover
- Basic training, sitting, lying down, all the useful everyday things
- Learning to settle
- Handling for vet visits, so your puppy can take part in their own care and be examined without stress
- Health checks
- Recall
- Grooming, which is a real part of your dogās wellbeing rather than just a haircut
- Loose lead walking
- Reading your dogās body language and understanding what they are telling you
- Focus and engagement
- Preventing resource guarding and other behaviour problems before they ever start
- Socialisation and greeting manners with people and dogs, and you might even meet Loki, our helper dog
It is packed with information, delivered so that it is easy to take in, and useful for the whole of your dogās life.

Six puppies, and no more
The class is capped at six so that everybody gets attention and no puppy gets lost in the noise, in the comfort of Woolston Community Centre. I stay behind after every class to answer questions and pass on tips.
Who it is for
- Puppies up to six months old
- First time owners looking for guidance
- Experienced owners who fancy a fun and enriching class
- Any breed
- A full vaccination record is preferred, but puppies who have not yet had their second jab are welcome. Give me a call if that is you, as we take extra precautions for everyoneās safety.
Who it is not for
- Reactive dogs. Back on Track is where you want to be, and I am happy to talk you through it.
- Dogs over six months of age
- Families using aversive methods
